A weighted grade gives different assignments, exams, projects, or categories different levels of importance. A 95% on a 5%-weight quiz does not affect your course grade as much as an 85% on a 30%-weight final.

- Convert each score to a percentage. Divide the points earned by the maximum points.
- Convert each weight to a decimal. A 25% weight becomes 0.25.
- Multiply. Score percentage × weight gives the contribution to your final grade.
- Add the contributions. When weights total 100%, the sum is your weighted course grade.

How do I calculate a weighted grade?

Do my weights have to add up to 100%?
